We've just shown you how to remove an existing remote, so you can hopefully add a new one, this time with the correct URL. Then, if everything is all right, you can go on to adding the desired remote. To make sure the remote is indeed deleted, you can use the Git remote command you saw earlier. So a possible solution here would be simply removing the existing remote:Īs explained before, origin is just a name for a remote. If, for some reason, you skip step #2, that will cause Git to display the "remote origin already exists" message. Go to your local repository and remove the existing origin remote.Īdd the new online repository as the correct origin remote. To go about that, you could follow the steps below:Ĭreate a new repository online using GitHub or GitLab. Let's say, for the sake of the example, that you used to use GitLab for storing your repositories online and then decided to switch over to GitHub (or vice versa). The first scenario we'll cover is the one in which there's already a remote called origin, but it's the wrong remote for some reason. Keep in mind that the solution you'll use will depend on your specific situation because there are a few different scenarios that can cause this problem to happen. Having explained why the error message happens, we'll now cover some of the several potential solutions you can use to solve the problem. Solving the "Remote Origin Already Exists" Error in Four Different Ways Similarly to the way that the default branch in Git is called controller-though that could change in the near future-the default remote is called origin, but you could name it anything you like as long as it's a legal name in Git. In this case, the error message would say: That will return not only the names of each remote but also its URLs:īy the way, the message will not always contain the actual word "origin." Let's say you're trying to add a remote called cloudbees but there's already a remote with that name. If you want to get more detail, you can add the verbose parameter with the remote command, like this: That will make your Git list all existing remotes for the current repository. If you want to be really sure the remote called origin actually exists, you can easily check that by running the following command: So if you try to add a remote with the same name as an already existing remote, boom! Fatal error. However, you can't have two remotes with the same name. Remotes have names to identify them, and you can have as many remotes per repository as you need or want. Keep in mind that, despite the name, remotes aren't necessarily located on remote machines: despite sounding like an oxymoron, local remotes are totally possible. Those are usually on machines other than your own, and you access them via SSH or HTTP. Remotes represent repositories that you might have read and/or write access to. In Git, you can have what we call remote repositories, or simply remotes. Unlike centralized VCSs, Git doesn't have a central server. Understanding this message is actually easy. Then, you see a line similar to the following one:Īfter trying to execute the command above, you get the infamous error message: Picture this: You're following a Git tutorial you've found online. "Remote Origin Already Exists" Error: Why Does It Happen? In this post, we'll give more detail into why that error message happens in the first place and then show you a few different ways in which you can address it. That's not that different from your operating system preventing you from creating a file with the same name as an already existing file. It clearly states what the problem is: you're trying to add a remote called origin, but you already have one with that name. As far as Git error messages go, this one is pretty straightforward, unlike other weirder messages. Today, we'll add another installment to the series by covering an issue you might bump into when following Git tutorials over the web: the "remote origin already exists" error. To help you along your learning journey, we've been covering common Git pitfalls and explaining how to get out of them. The tool originally created by Linus Torvalds-yes, the creator of the Linux kernel-has become the de facto standard when it comes to source control solutions. Do you write code for a living? Then learn Git, and learn it well. Files can be copied wirelessly between two NXT bricks, and some mobile phones can be used as a remote control. Compared to most first-person shooters of the time, which relied on cut-scene intermissions to detail their plotlines, Half-Life 's story is told mostly using scripted sequences (bar one short cutscene), keeping the player in control of the first-person viewpoint. Unlike most of its peers at the time, Half-Life uses scripted sequences, such as a Vortigaunt ramming down a door, to advance major plot points. Half-Life is a first-person shooter (FPS) that requires the player to perform combat tasks and puzzle solving to advance through the game. Gameplay An in-game screenshot of the player battling enemy marines, an attack helicopter, and a gun turret in the chapter "Surface Tension" It was followed by the expansion packs Opposing Force (1999) and Blue Shift (2001), developed by Gearbox Software, and the sequels Half-Life 2 (2004), Half-Life 2: Episode One (2006), Half-Life 2: Episode Two (2007) and Half-Life: Alyx (2020). Half-Life inspired numerous fan-made mods, some of which became standalone games, such as Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, and Sven Co-op. In 2020, Crowbar Collective released an unofficial remake, Black Mesa. Valve ported Half-Life to its Source engine as Half-Life: Source in 2004. It was ported to the PlayStation 2 in 2001, along with the multiplayer expansion Decay, and to OS X and Linux in 2013. By 2008, it had sold more than nine million copies. It is considered one of the most influential FPS games and one of the greatest video games ever made. Half-Life received acclaim for its graphics, gameplay and narrative and won more than 50 PC " Game of the Year" awards. The science fiction novelist Marc Laidlaw was hired to craft the plot and assist with design. Valve developed the game using GoldSrc, a heavily-modified version of the Quake engine, licensed from id Software. Unlike other games at the time, the player has almost uninterrupted control of the player character the story is mostly experienced through scripted sequences rather than cutscenes. Valve was disappointed with the lack of innovation in the FPS genre, and aimed to create an immersive world rather than a "shooting gallery". The gameplay consists of combat, exploration and puzzles. The player assumes the role of Gordon Freeman, a scientist who must escape the Black Mesa Research Facility after it is invaded by aliens following a disastrous scientific experiment. It was Valve's debut product and the first game in the Half-Life series. Half-Life is a 1998 first-person shooter (FPS) game developed by Valve Corporation and published by Sierra Studios for Windows. It hasn't always been like this, but we'll get into how it has changed later, when we discuss the history of the periodic table. These elements are assembled in rows, columns, and blocks. How is the periodic table structured?įirst and foremost, the periodic table consists of elements. This means that once you know an element's position in the periodic table, you can predict how it behaves and reacts. The periodic table is handy because it orders elements into rows and columns based on their properties. It provides a systematic way of organizing and classifying the elements. Elements in Group 2 have similar chemical properties, they are called the alkaline earth metals. The periodic table of elements is a table of chemical elements ordered based on their atomic number, electron configuration, and recurring chemical properties. GroupĮlements in Group 1 (periodic table) have similar chemical properties and are called alkali metals. The vertical columns have similar properties within their group for example Lithium is similar to sodium, beryllium is similar to magnesium, and so on. The table below shows that elements increase from left to right accordingly to their atomic number. The periodic law is found to help determine many patterns of many different properties of elements melting and boiling points, densities, electrical conductivity, reactivity, acidic, basic, valance, polarity, and solubility. Thus, we can see that elements are arranged based on their atomic number. 39.1, respectively), yet argon is in front of potassium. As mentioned before, argon weights more than potassium (39.9 vs. Similar properties recur periodically when elements are arranged according to increasing atomic number."Ītomic numbers, not weights, determine the factor of chemical properties. With Moseley's contribution the Periodic Law can be restated: Moseley was able to tie the X-Ray frequencies to numbers equal to the nuclear charges, therefore showing the placement of the elements in Mendeleev's periodic table. Moseley did researched the X-Ray spectra of the elements and suggested that the energies of electron orbitals depend on the nuclear charge and the nuclear charges of atoms in the target, which is also known as anode, dictate the frequencies of emitted X-Rays. Elements were placed into groups that expressed similar chemical behavior. An example of this was with argon (atomic mass 39.9), which was put in front of potassium (atomic mass 39.1). Explaining that a given set of properties reoccurs every eight place, he named it the law of Octaves.Ītomic Number as the Basis for the Periodic LawĪssuming there were errors in atomic masses, Mendeleev placed certain elements not in order of increasing atomic mass so that they could fit into the proper groups (similar elements have similar properties) of his periodic table. R Newland arranged the elements in increasing of atomic weights. This gave scientists the tools to reveal the relationships between elements. In 1859 two physicists Robert Willhem Bunsen and Gustav Robert Kirchoff discovered spectroscopy which allowed for discovery of many new elements. However, at the time of this discovery too few elements had been discovered and there was confusion between molecular weight and atomic weights therefore, chemists never really understood the significance of Doberiner's triad. By 1829, chemist Johann Wolfgang Doberiner observed that certain elements with similar properties occur in group of three such as chlorine, bromine, iodine calcium, strontium, and barium sulfur, selenium, tellurium iron, cobalt, manganese. Around the same time, two chemists Sir Humphry Davy and Michael Faraday developed electrochemistry which aided in the discovery of new elements. In 1804 physicist John Dalton advanced the atomic theory of matter, helping scientists determine the mass of the known elements. Dobermans usually have the classic form of the disease in large breed dogs whereas Great Danes have the typical form seen in Giant breeds. A recent survey of the Veterinary Medical Database showed that 4.2% of Great Danes have wobblers, whereas the disease is present in 5.5% of Dobermans. What are the breeds most commonly affected?ĭobermans and Great Danes are the breeds most commonly affected. In a study with 104 dogs with wobblers only 5 were small dogs. Small breed dogs occasionally get the disease but it is uncommon. Wobbler syndrome is primarily a disease of large and giant breed dogs. Approximately 5% of dogs with wobblers may become acutely paralyzed in all four legs. In the more advanced stages of the disease the problems become obvious in all four legs, and they may have trouble getting up, appear very weak, and even “buckle over” with the front legs. They may walk with their head down, which is usually a sign of pain. This wobbly gait may only be visible in slippery floors and when the dog walks slowly. What are the signs of Wobbler syndrome?ĭogs with wobbler syndrome typically have a “wobbly” gait mostly in the back end (thus the name “wobblers”). Other common names are CVI – cervical vertebral instability, CVM – cervical vertebral malformation, CVMM – cervical vertebral malformation-malarticulation, and cervical spondylopathy. The name most commonly used in veterinary articles is cervical spondylomyelopathy (which means a disease of the neck vertebrae affecting the spinal cord). This is in part due to the confusion regarding the mechanisms causing it. Wobbler syndrome or wobblers is the most common name used but the Veterinary literature has used 14 names to describe this condition. Are there other names for Wobbler syndrome? It is a very important and common cause of neurologic disability in large breed dogs. Wobbler syndrome is a neurologic disease of dogs that affects their spine in the neck region. You might try just making the top layer 3D to see what that does. If you are still stuck we need a much more informative screenshot to figure out what is going on. I would start the troubleshooting by soloing the two layers that are giving you problems, press the U key twice to see all modified properties, then start turning things off or resetting the values until you find what is causing the problem. That is not at all how I would have approached the problem. Right now it looks like you just filled the keyed footage of the actor or actors with black and are trying to use that to create a shadow on the ground. Since I can't see what is going on with the 2D layer, which I assume is a keyed layer of at least one of the actors, I think the reason for the shadow copy is acting weird is that there is something else going on in the layer. Usually, if you put a 2D layer above a 3D layer it will mask or cover the 3D layer. The light is coming from the upper right side of the frame but the shadow is falling from the upper left. The first and biggest problem that I see is the direction of the shadow. Here's my guess at the workflow along with a little criticism of the design. When you post a screenshot please select the problem layer or layers and press "uu" to reveal all modified properties so we don't have to guess. It would help if we knew for sure what was going on in the layers.
